Lack of purpose

By Julien Pascual on May 16, 2022

The company has no purpose statement, or it has one turned towards shareholders or something like "beeing N°1". By lack of a correct purpose statement (Mission, Vision and Values that are engaging and crazy, epic enough to define a journey worth beeing followed), employees have no "box", no "why" to adapt what they do or how they do it, reinforcing the "that's the way we have always done" attitude

Great addition Julien. Companies that lack or have lost along the way a meaningful and clear purpose will likely find themselves struggling more than not. This understanding of WHY it exists is a key driver for an organization and if there is a disconnect here, you can bet there will be disconnects throughout the entire organization. Additionally, there is a strong link between employees connection to their organization's purpose and their individual performance. If the organization is lacking a true purpose statement as you described, then it is ultimately missing out significant employee value creation and performance.
