The Busting Bureaucracy Hackathon

Phase 3: Ideas for Busting Bureaucracy (Part 1)

Limit organisation size to about 150 in a function-based federation.

By Graham Douglas on July 4, 2022

Keep unit sizes and working contacts for each person down to about 150. This is known as Dunbar's Number which is explained at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar%27s_number . Broadly it is about the maximum number of people with whom someone can have a good social relationship. This would suggest organisations should be kept to about 150 and is behind my suggestion for a federated structure of small organisations each performing a function, customer advocacy for instance, rather than large organisations which try to control all functions and become bureaucracies.
