Hack the MIX Hackathon

Have Users (and Contributors) Rate Resources (both Internal & External)

By David Williams on March 26, 2022

Taking an idea from the Goodreads website, users/readers rate resources from 0-5 stars, allowing an area for comments.  Folks can share how helpful (or not) an idea, process, or external book or website are.

In addition, participants are allowed to create lists of suggestion requests and get others to contribute their ideas.  This would be similar to the "Empower people to self-organize" aspect.  For example, someone could post "ideas to raise morale in the environment of government cutbacks".  Contributors could submit their own ideas, or external links, or suggestions for books, etc.  Others who have used those resources could then contribute their own ratings and comments, making the resource even more useful.

You need to register in order to submit a comment.

Hi David - great approach! STRUCTURING useful resources helps contributors to reduce and users to more easily handle the associated complexity. Furthermore, RATING is adding value through easing the process of selection.
This way, your approach is a process innovation to the MIX by using the intelligence of the crowd to contribute variety and selective power and with the theme owner providing the learning algorithm –that’s a real evolutionary principle! Wonderful!

Hi David! I like where you are going with this. So, if I understand you correctly, we'd create an open space on the MIX where contributors could submit resources (e.g. blogs, books, websites, articles, etc.) that they think would be valuable to other management innovators, and other contributors would rate and comment, with the best resources eventually rising to the top. Do I have that right? And perhaps we'd also make it easy to tag these resources, or separate them into categories, so it would be easy for folks to find what they are looking for (e.g. resources for increasing autonomy, replacing performance reviews, creating a more open environment, etc.)

Exactly - you put it much better than I did!
I cannot claim originality for it. Check out Goodreads.com and view the ratings/comments for a few books. Also check out their Listopia, which is a little bit more free-form, and may not work as well for the MIX.
